Despite being among the most developed nations in the region, Thailand is a country with a great divide between the wealthy and the impoverished—examples are everywhere. Thailand’s royal family lives in ornate and extravagant palaces commanding respect from the country’s less fortunate. Similarly, many more Thais live in beautiful open-air homes, ride to work on Bangkok’s Sky Train, and shop at western-style malls. The flip-side of this coin is both shocking and disturbing. In Klong Toey, Bangkok’s largest slum, residents live in makeshift huts of corrugated metal leaving little space for either good health or hope.   

In conjunction with Father Joe and the Human Development Foundation, a local non-governmental organization, you will volunteer on community development projects and interact extensively with Klong Toey's warm, welcoming, and inspiring people. A challenge for the strong at heart the rewards are gratitude and a greater understanding of human fragility. You might work in a community health center or with local street children. Whatever your task, let your courage guide you.

Through each trip experience, Leaders Today’s seasoned facilitation team will construct an intense leadership curriculum that allows you to process what you see and get the background information on the social issues you encounter.  Not only will you make a difference every day at your volunteer placement, but you’ll learn the skills you need to continue making change when you return home.

When not volunteering, excursions to ancient Buddhist sites, relaxation gardens, and night markets will expose you to Thailand’s rich cultural heritage. Learning the unique art of Thai massage, watching a Muay Thai kickboxing match, or taking a Thai cooking class are just a few of the activities Thailand has to offer.

Finally, a weekend on the country's stunning tropical coast along the Gulf of Thailand provides an opportunity to reflect and debrief as you digest your experience and wrap-up your intense leadership training.
