Volunteer & Leadership Kenya
Let your imagination go and picture yourself in Kenya, spending a beautiful summer day building a school, playing games with jubilant children and unlocking leadership skills you never knew you had—all within earshot of some the world’s largest animals! At the Kenya School of the Savannah Leadership Center you’ll wake up in the African sunshine surrounded by elephants, new friends and endless possibilities.
The Maasai Mara, the center’s home, is Africa’s richest wildlife reserve and home to the Big Five: elephant, rhino, lion, buffalo and leopard. It also hosts the world’s greatest migration of zebra and wildebeest, with millions of animals crossing from Tanzania’s Serengeti to the Kenyan Mara, and back, between the months of June and October.
Leaving the airport and capital city of Nairobi far behind, you’ll strike out into rural Kenya to chat, laugh and learn with local Maasai and Kipsigis community members. As you begin to grasp the local culture and language, the persistent challenges of globalization and rural development that they face every day will come into focus.
Pack your work gloves—you’ll be sweating alongside community members building a Free The Children school or water project. In desperate need of facilities, villages set aside the land for schools and water projects and then welcome volunteers in lending their hearts and hands to the community effort. Dig the school’s foundation, erect the walls, raise the roof or pour concrete for the water tank. When you return home, you’ll leave behind a project that will continue to give hope to local children long after your blisters have healed.
These valuable experiences lay the foundation for our workshops, where you’ll take an in-depth look at social issues and undergo intensive leadership training to equip you to take action on your return home. Long days of building and learning are highlighted with inspirational guest speakers, uplifting wilderness activities and hands-on environmental seminars that will challenge your thinking on the balance between development and protecting the world’s life-sustaining ecosystems.
Volunteer and Leadership Kenya offers an intensive travel experience that will dazzle your eyes and open your mind. You’ll never see the world in the same way again. If you want change the status quo, then reach out with all your senses and feel the heartbeat of Africa!
