Visit the land of extreme contrasts: Ancient culture, modern advances and rural poverty

Deeply rooted in tradition and relatively unknown to the outside world, China is a country of profound contrasts. If you’re ready for a fascinating adventure in a vast, diverse, and ancient country, join us for a chance to experience China like few visitors ever have.

Volunteer Adventure Highlights:

  • Teach in Free The Children schools
  • Learn about poverty issues in rural China
  • Visit ancient cultural sites
  • Enhance your leadership skills with hands-on workshops

Examine the costs of rapid economic growth

In the midst of a massive and fast-paced transformation, China is in the process of defining its role in this century. In Beijing, you’ll get an insider’s view of what is quickly becoming the world’s largest economic superpower. In rural China, a remote and impoverished area where the average family lives on less than $90 per year, participants come face-to-face with the challenges of development in a vast and struggling rural countryside. Traveling through the diverse regions of northern or southern China, you will visit monumental sites such as the Forbidden City and the Great Wall, spend time in the nation’s bustling capital, and sample China’s many regional dishes.

Contribute to the communities that we don’t hear about in the news

Through volunteering and teaching in local communities, take a glimpse into the lives of rural people who tackle the challenges of adapting to change in a rapidly urbanizing nation.

Volunteer in Free The Children schools and host day-camps for Chinese youth. While teaching at a Free The Children school, participants will create lasting connections within the local community and lay the groundwork for a future leadership center in China.

Volunteering brings you face to face with real-life struggles and opens your eyes to the need for cultural dialogue and understanding. This experience is complemented with time for guided and personal reflection allowing you to process your experiences and think critically about what steps you can take to create positive change wherever you find yourself.

Me to We Trips in China are for anyone interested in lifelong friendships across international lines, physically challenging adventure and exploring one of the world’s oldest civilizations.
