Youth and Philanthropy Initiative

The Youth and Philanthropy Initiative, created and developed by the Toskan Casale Foundation, was launched in 2002 to help high school youth learn not only about their communities’ social issues but also the local charity and non-profit organizations that are working with minimum funding to create positive change.

The Youth and Philanthropy Initiative is a ground-breaking community outreach and research program that teaches high-school students in Grades 9 and 10 the fundamentals of philanthropy. The curriculum, provided free of charge by the Toskan Casale Foundation, teaches youth the “ins and outs” of operating a charity or non-profit organization. Students learn what the difference between a foundation and an operating charity is, and how these organizations should function in respect to ethics, finances, and accountability.

YPI also provides students with a sense of responsibility, respect and a commitment to building compassionate communities. By researching and advocating for local grassroots charities YPI students in each participating school have the opportunity to win a $5000.00 grant on behalf of a chosen charity. Your students thus become active agents of positive change not only through education, but also through practical experience.

The Toskan Casale Foundation

The Toskan Casale Foundation reflects the passion and beliefs of its three directors, Julie Toskan-Casale, Victor Casale, and Frank Toskan, founders of MAC Cosmetics. Carrying forward a tradition of innovative thinking, the Toskan Casale Foundation was launched in 2001, with a mission to assist vulnerable community members in need of long-term stability, relief, and support.

Leaders Today and the The Toskan Casale Foundation are administering the Youth in Philanthropy Initiative in 120 secondary schools from representative school boards in Ontario for the 2007-2008 academic year.
