Volunteer Now!
Volunteer Now! is a hands-on training program developed for use by secondary schools interested in empowering their Grade 10 students with the necessary tools to become active local and global citizens in their communities as Volunteer Ambassadors.
Started in 2002, Volunteer Now! met the need for a student driven approach to the 40 hour community service requirement in Ontario schools. First put into practice in Toronto school boards, the program has since expanded across North America.
Through workshops and seminars provided by expert Volunteer Now! facilitators, five teacher-selected students from each school (with representatives from four schools at one time) receive the training guidance, and support they need to thrive as school and community leaders.
Once trained, Volunteer Ambassadors transfer their new-found knowledge and skills to their fellow peers through a variety of innovative, youth-friendly initiatives. Skills are developed and confidence is built as students become engaged school leaders and community citizens. To sustain long-term learning, the program employs Leaders Today’s bestselling and youth-friendly Take Action! and Take More Action curriculum.
This Leaders Today program has proven highly-effective and popular because it connects communities and schools, gives students ownership over important community issues, and provides youth leaders with a role to play in finding meaningful solutions. So join us and together let’s build the strength of today’s youth!
