Joe's Dream
Among Joe’s many, many dreams is a scholarship fund to provide accessible opportunities for young people to volunteer overseas, learn from new friends around the world, explore their leadership potential and realize their dreams.
We will carry on Joe’s love by making these dreams a reality!
The loss of Joe Opatowski our mentor, brother, friend and colleague is one of the greatest losses that Free The Children and Leaders Today have ever had to face. We have lost an amazing World Leader. Having said this, we must work together and keep Joe alive both through our everyday actions as well as working together and fulfilling Joe’s Dream. The goal of Free The Children and Leaders Today is to keep Joe’s legacy alive through a scholarship fund.
The Scholarship fund will enable youth who would not otherwise be able to participate in the Leaders Today annual Take Action Academy and their International Volunteer trips. These programs were very important to Joe as they equip youth with the tools they require to be the leaders of today.
Free The Children and Leaders Today, like Joe, believe that education plays a large role in solving the problems that exist in the World today. We hope that you will help us to realize Joe’s dream.
| What are Recipients Saying? “Meeting people from all over the world was cool…you find so many people just like you” Shyla Bouvier “When I arrived at the academy I was nervous but excited on what might happen and what I might be doing for the week, but that night as we all started to get to know each other better I felt all my fears float away. This academy helped me more than I hoped it would. I hoped it would help me develop my leadership skills and introduce me to many new people who shared my passions and goals for a better tomorrow, the academy did all this and more. At the academy I gained a whole new perspective on life and living, I even found parts of myself that I didn't know existed. The power of today’s youth is so strong that if and when we stick together we CAN accomplish anything and everything that comes across our path.” Alice Rankin Age: 19 |
