East Coast Take Action! Academy

Join us August 4th-8th 2008 in Sackville, New Brunswick, Canada where the East Coast Take Action! Academy is hosted by Mount Allison University. This eye-opening five-day academy will get you up to speed on the state of the world’s pressing issues, introduce you to others in your area who share your concern and enthusiasm and develop and hone your leadership skills. You will discover more about your passion and potential and plan concrete actions to literally change the world.

As a participant you receive both educational and hands-on learning through seminars, workshops and our newly revised and bestselling Take Action! curriculum. With an inclusive peer-to-peer learning approach, the East Coast Academy has something for young people of every age and leadership level.

The Academy’s workshops are based on an interactive model that explores and develops skills such as public speaking, personal discovery, assertive communication, fundraising tools, media interaction and the inner-workings of our 7 Steps to Social Involvement. In special social issues sessions and presentations by local youth movers and shakers, participants hear about real-life campaigns that have worked to raise awareness and make changes in communities the world over and at home. Our dynamic facilitation team electrifies global audiences with compelling stories and inspiring words. The East Coast Academy is no exception.

Not only will you build your skills for the long-term, look outward to see how you can change the world around you, but you will also look inward to find your own leadership passion in personal discovery sessions.

Academy highlights

  • Skill development: Learn from the bestselling Take Action! guides and participate in leadership workshops on public speaking, social issues, action planning and the 7 Steps to Social Involvement.
  • Confidence building: The Academy provides participants with the knowledge and self-confidence to make them highly-effective leaders.
  • Expert peer facilitators: Through interactive discussion, facilitators speak directly to the hearts and minds of youth, sharing travel stories and unique insights.
  • Local and inclusive: Participants from diverse backgrounds join us from across Canada, with ages typically ranging between 11 and 19 years.
  • Issues and Interaction: While learning about important social issues, participants will be treated to fun-filled volunteer days and team-building exercises, as well as a dance and talent show.
