Kenya School of the Savannah
This was the trip of a lifetime! The people and places make it truly amazing...This helped me to become a leader in so many ways. My favourite part of the trip was walking through the Mukutan Gorge and bonding as a team. Thank you for a wonderful trip! –Jake Heimark
Join us in Kenya for a unique and front-line peek at participatory community development in rural Africa. The Kenya School of the Savannah Peace and Leadership Center is situated in Kenya's Masai Mara and open year-round to school, youth, family, adult, and business groups, intent on an activity-based learning experience like no other.
A nature lover’s paradise, The Masai Mara is home to Africa’s Big Five: elephant, rhino, lion, buffalo and leopard. The Center, sheltered by shade trees, is surrounded by savannah and frequented by giraffe intent on finding the shade of our nearby acacia trees. Not to worry, the facility is surrounded by animal-proof fencing to keep wildlife from getting too close for comfort.
The Mara is also a region rich in human history, as it is home to the colourful Maasai and Kipsigis, people famous for their unique cultures and traditions. Villages are only a short trip away and offer the opportunity for enlightening and heart-warming cross-cultural communication.
Designed by Kenyan architect and engineer John N’drangu, the Center is peaceful, secure, and constructed of renewable indigenous materials such as cedar, talek stone, and heavy canvas. The Center’s facilities include a library, computer room, and fair-trade workshop. There are six permanent tented rooms, which can comfortably accommodate up to five individuals each, with bathrooms only a short walk away—hot running water too!
The Center is an ideal base for students-of-life undertaking various volunteer and leadership initiatives.
Whether you want to flex your muscles building a school with our partner Free The Children or capture the beauty of the local wildlife with your camera, the opportunities are endless.
The choice is yours. The Kenya School of the Savannah hosts a chance-of-a-lifetime opportunity to step into a learning experience that combines exploration, leadership, service to others, and heart-stopping scenery.
