Sarah Wetmore

Title: Leadership Facilitator
Interesting Fact: With only five minutes of notice, Sarah was asked to address 2,000 students about stopping violence against women…and she did it!

Sarah Wetmore joins Leaders Today as a leadership facilitator with the Volunteer Now! program, wherein she directs workshops for students across Ontario. These workshops empower students with leadership skills to motivate their peers to get involved in school and community initiatives while educating them about local and global issues.

Sarah became involved with Leaders Today and Free The Children in 2003 after hearing a motivational address from a Free The Children speaker. That introduction to the organization prompted her to delve further into Free The Children’s work by attending Leaders Today workshops and taking part in the Volunteer Now! program. Soon after, Sarah embarked on her first Leaders Today volunteer trip to rural China, where she worked with local orphans, distributed school and health supplies and taught English in Free The Children schools. Sarah has also travelled across Canada, France, Ireland and rural Kenya, and spends portions of the year facilitating Leaders Today trips in China. Sarah has been awarded the Sandy Ransom Award for Student Leadership, the Martha Wood Humanitarian Award and her high school’s Gold Medal for Involvement. Sarah looks forward to helping other young people develop positive memories of high school by encouraging them to get involved in their school and in their world.

With an incredible love for nature, Sarah spends much of her time outdoors—camping, hiking, reading and taking photographs. Her favourite movie is Born Into Brothels and, like the film’s protagonist, Sarah aspires to use her passion for art to make a positive change in the world.
