Giustina D’Elia
Title: Outreach Coordinator
Interesting Fact: Giustina once performed during the halftime show at a Toronto Argonauts game with York University’s cheerleading team.
Giustina D’Elia joined the Leaders Today organization as a leadership facilitator in 2007. Having grown up as the eldest child of three in a low-income, single-parent household, Giustina faced responsibility and leadership at an early age. As a result, the act of providing underprivileged children with opportunities has developed into one of her greatest passions.
Giustina is a graduate of York University’s International Development Studies program. In learning about world economics, she paid particular attention to the unequal distribution of wealth and resources, both here in Canada and globally. In 2001, Giustina was aghast to witness this phenomenon first-hand when she visited Cuba in the devastating wake of Hurricane Michelle, showing her just how few resources many of the survivors had to sustain themselves in the hurricane’s aftermath. Giustina has had the chance to work with children from a variety of socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds here in Toronto, as well. She helped to cultivate and, for over five years, lead the Harbourfront Community Centre after-school program. She also worked for the HCC as a summer camp coordinator, wherein her passion for global equality, event planning and education were put to good use for her campers.
Giustina loves to be active. She enjoys Pilates and yoga, and has done recreational hip-hop dancing for eight years. She also loves reading celebrity autobiographies, spending time in the sun, and acting. Her desire for global equality is fueled by her encounters with like-minded individuals and the positive efforts made by the children and youth she has had the pleasure to work with. These experiences, above any others, serve as constant sources of motivation.
